India Fashion Summit was launched in 2016 as a destination event by well-known Indian fashion journalist Vinod Nair and IIM alumnus Arun Balachandran along with Kerala Tourism. In 2018 Department of Labour & Skills, Government of Kerala joined hands with the event. First of its kind in the country, IFS has been positioned as a dialogue platform where industry experts from India and abroad can meet, network and deliberate various aspects of the Indian fashion industry and provide a 360-degree view of various issues impacting the fashion industry.

Objectives

In association with the Department of Labour & Skills, Government of Kerala and Kerala Tourism and other industry bodies to provide an ecosystem for sustainable development of fashion with prime focus on promoting handwoven textiles in designer fashion and nurturing exceptional young talents in the field of fashion. IFS proposes to bring together various fashion stakeholders under one roof and will eventually act as an ecosystem for the effective policy making, sustainable development and nurturing designers of the future.

• To find and promote budding talents in the field of fashion.
• To create a mentor platform for the young talents

Our Speakers

Speakers include India's top fashion designers, corporate leaders, leading editors, on and offline retail heads, and other industry leaders. Along with a host of other fashion insiders, the speakers and panel leaders will generate insightful discussions centering on the Summit’s theme.

Manish Malhotra is one of India's most successful fashion designers. Malhotra has designed for many leading actresses in Bollywood. He is known in the Indian film industry for his different style and his ability to envision a 'look' for the character.

Wendell Rodricks

Fashion designer

Wendell Rodricks is an Indian fashion designer based in the western Indian region of Goa. He has been listed among one Americas top ten designers.

Arjun Khanna

Fashion designer

Arjun Khanna – the designer and the label – is not just synonymous with the best in bespoke menswear in India, but also with an innate sense of the avant-garde in fashion and style. His contribution to men's fashion in India has been nothing short of pioneering and his entrepreneurship is only just opening its doors to limitless opportunities. Arjun Khanna is a designer to watch out for, not just for his elegant designs but for his sheer imagination and an experience guaranteed to thrill.

Narendra Kumar

Creative Head, Amazon Fashion

Narendra Kumar’s tryst with fashion began in 1990 after graduating from the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in New Delhi. After graduating from NIFT, he honed his skills and designed with Ensemble, Rohit Khosla and Tarun Tahiliani.

Peter D'Ascoli

Fashion & Textile Designer, USA

From a childhood filled with drawing and painting to his studies in Textile & Product Design at the Fashion Institute Of Technology in Manhattan, the primary motivation of Peter D’Ascoli’s work as a designer has always been a desire to create beauty and value through creative innovation. In March of 2006, after Globalization swept most product development to Asia, and after more than twenty years of designing and directing studios in New York City, Peter established the Talianna Studio in India to tap that country’s vast creative resources and to be closer to the factories producing his designs.

Anil Chopra

Former CEO & MD - Lakmé Lever Ltd.

Anil spent 30 years in the beauty industry (Cosmetics, Skin & Hair Care and Fragrances). He joined Lakmé Ltd and rose to the position of CEO. With liberalization of Indian economy and influx of global brands, Anil led Lakmé's strategy of incorporating world class technology and “fashion” to be its language of beauty, thereby seen as a contemporary & vibrant brand. Lakmé continues to be the market leader by a wide margin. He has been a member of Association of Cosmetics & Toiletries and chaired committee for Development Council of India promoting growth along with Industry standards. Anil has been a speaker at IHT Luxury Conference and WWD - Global Cosmetic Cos CEO's Summit at Miami. Since 2012 Anil is an Independent Consultant in FMCG - Personal Care, Beauty & Fashion.

Vinod Nair

Stepping into fashion was pre-meditated for Vinod Nair. Hailing from a small town in Kerala, where men wore dhotis like mini skirts, most women smelt like drums of coconut oil, he thought the only way to size up pretty girls and still not get hit by their stilettos was by writing about them. So he started that in 1991 when fashion was still small here. Writing, of course, was incidental. In 2004, Vinod Nair was awarded “Best Fashion Journalist” at the first fashion awards in the country, F-Awards. Fashion has gone a long way since then… but he still stands where he started…

Neena Haridas

Neena Haridas is an Indian journalist known for being the Editor of the Indian edition of the international beauty and fashion magazine Marie Claire from 2010 to 2013. Before becoming the editor in 2010, she worked at Maxposure Media, Andpersand lifestyle magazine, Estetica beauty magazine, and conceptualised and edited an in-flight magazine called Spice Route. Before that, she worked at Business Standard, The Pioneer, The Telegraph and HT City, and she also worked as a features editor at News X Channel.

Suket Dhir

Fashion designer

After graduating from the National Institute of Fashion Technology (New Delhi) in 2005, Suket Dhir launched his eponymous label in 2010, following an invaluable learning experience in the corporate design sector. In 2016 he became the first Asian to win the International Woolmark Prize for Menswear. Suket has been featured on the covers of the Economist and the New York Times. The label is currently available at Saks Fifth Avenue in New York, David Jones in Sydney, Boon The Shop in Seoul and L’Eclaireur in Paris; and the Good Earth, Ensemble and Amethyst in India.

Alan Alexander Kaleekal

Fashion Designer

Born and brought up in Trivandrum, Kerala, Alan Alexander Kaleekal left a successful career in Engineering to pursue fashion design in Paris at the age of 21. After completing his fashion design studies at Studio Berçot, Paris, the designer worked for some of the biggest Parisian fashion houses before returning to India in 2015. The brand KALEEKAL was founded the same year with the aim of employing traditional Indian handloom fabrics in conceptualizing an avant-garde wardrobe and giving a contemporary voice to Indian artisanal weaves and crafts. Minimal in detail and functionality, the brand aesthetics could be roughly summed up as tending towards often-times awkward looking clothes that question the norms of conventional fashion and garment construction.

Sabyasachi Mukherjee is an Indian fashion designer from Kolkata. Since 1999, he has sold designer merchandise using the label 'Sabyasachi'. Mukherjee is one of the Associate Designer Members of Fashion Design Council of India and the youngest board member of the National Museum of Indian Cinema

Gautam Kotamraju is the Creative Head of Private Brands at Online Retail Giant Amazon. He previously worked at Myntra.com and rose through the ranks starting as a Private Brands Head, and becoming SVP of new initiatives. During his stint as the VP for Fashion Brands at Myntra.com, he created what can be termed as the most successful private brands business of any retailer in the history of Indian retail, at a speed that can't be easily replicated. Using design to differentiate and create brands was the key to his success.

Pernia Qureshi

Founder, Pernia's Pop Up Shop


Pernia Qureshi is one of India’s leading style icons & fashion entrepreneurs. A stylist with Harper’s Bazaar, Elle & Conde Nast in New York & New Delhi, Pernia also ventured into designing costumes for Bollywood, namely the film ‘Aisha’. She created & launched Pernia’s Pop-Up Shop, India’s first true fashion website that showcases over a 100 designers, and has a global reach.

Beena Kannan

CEO & Lead Designer - Seematti

Beena Kannan is an Indian sari designer. After university, she joined the family textile retailing business 'Seematti' in 1980. She became one of the most noticed wedding silk sari designers in south India. Her unique contribution appears to be her efforts to retain the pride of place for saris even in the face of onslaught from Western and North Indian fashions.

Prasad Bidappa is a Bangalore based fashion stylist and choreographer for various fashion shows. He is known to be a fashion consultant, choreographer, image consultant and stylist. He is reputed to have a gift for spotting talent and he has picked and groomed top models who have gone on to make it big in the fashion industry and even in movies. Lara Dutta, Anushka Sharma and Khan Junaid were some of his finds.

Sreejith Jeevan launched RAUKA brand, a textile graduate from the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad and the Ecole Nationale Superieure Des Arts Decoratifs, Paris, who witnesses no boundaries in his quest for perfection. Sreejith, now works from his studio in Kochi, creating a timeless style that derives from the essence of people. He loves to dress, and the brand is his love potion. And he’s sharing!
